Volusia County was established in the mid 1800s and was named for one of the many settlements that were based on the St. Johns River. Home of one of the most famous beaches, not only in the United States, but in the world Daytona Beach, Volusia County enjoys a reputation as the place to vacation. The County is also well known and respected for its higher education facilities, claiming 5 major and well-respected colleges and universities. The population of the county has slowly increased over the years and continues to do so. As of the last Census in 2000, the county’s population was believed to exceed 450,000. By the end of 2006 it is estimated to have passed the half million mark. With its county seat located in Deland, Volusia County has several courthouses to better serve its population.

Volusia County has Courthouses located in Deland and Daytona Beach. The county also has annexes located in Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach all meant to make going to court convenient to its citizens. The main Courthouse in Deland is located at 101 North Alabama in beautiful and historical downtown Deland. The Daytona Beach courthouse is located at 251 North Ridgewood Avenue.
